Summary or Purpose:
Performing carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction to both commercial and residential buildings and responsible for interpreting blueprints and drawings and understanding specifications for project and installing foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs utilizing materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials.

Perform general carpentry work.
Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instruction utilizing different tools such as hand or powered tools.
Ensure adequate supply of materials and equipment to complete task.
Remodel interior and exterior of North Slope Borough facilities and surroundings.
Installing foundations, walls, floors, ceilings and roofs utilizing materials such as wood, steel, plastics, and composites of multiple materials.
Measure and install window frames, doors/frames, interior/exterior trim.
Maintain and use hand tools, power tools, and other tools associated with the carpentry trade.
Within NSB Health Facilities and NSB Itinerate Quarters, respect clients and/or tenants by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality.
Will be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays, and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
Will be required to work independently in remote and extreme weather environments.
Will be required to travel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of general carpentry practices, policies and procedures.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other tools associated with carpentry.
Knowledge of building and construction.
Ability to independently build scaffolding
Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers, maintaining effective working relations
Ability to perform basic framing
Ability to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, and building plans
Ability to pass a criminal background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit;
Ability to obtain CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid Certifications within 6 months of hire
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required:
Technical degree preferred, or equivalent experience of at least four years of technical school, community college or trade school experience;
Two years of experience in general carpentry;
Strong knowledge of job site safety
Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800;
Valid Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria;
Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis;
