Electrical Engineer

Job Description

The Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the hardware aspects of products throughout their entire lifecycle, from architecture and planning to design, verification, and validation. This role provides technical leadership for electrical design within cross-functional teams engaged in new product development and sustaining engineering projects. The hardware design development spans products based on various sensing technologies, such as optical and electrochemical, as well as communication technologies, both wired and wireless.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage hardware aspects of products from architecture to validation.
• Provide technical leadership for electrical design in cross-functional projects.
• Develop hardware design for products using different sensing and communication technologies.
• Write and qualify design requirements and test cases.
• Architect systems with subsystems, creating well-written requirements for regulatory purposes.
• Ensure separation between design and testing processes.
• Use Jira for requirements and test management.
• Collaborate hands-on with the team to solve problems and troubleshoot.
• Conduct testing at TUV and Element with occasional travel within Twin Cities.
• Mentor and guide the team through the entire product lifecycle from requirements to production.

• Electrical engineering and design expertise.
• Proficiency in schematic and hardware electronics design.
• Experience with PCB design and Altium software.
• Understanding of power distribution and microcontroller design.
• Strong in FPGA and VHDL/Verilog with Alterra.
• Capability in logic design and writing requirements for subsystems.
• Experience in regulated industries, such as medical or defense.
• Skill in electronics testing and writing test cases.

• Experience in electronics peripherals design and integration.
• Knowledge of power design and analog circuit design.
• Familiarity with design for manufacturing and test, particularly with sensors.
• Leadership and mentoring skills.

The work environment is centered around engineering, utilizing Altium for schematic and board layout. The role requires hands-on involvement throughout the entire product lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration and testing of electronic components. The position involves occasional travel within Twin Cities for testing purposes, providing opportunities for collaboration and problem-solving with the team.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
