Education & Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing preferred.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in a data center or critical facility environment.
Proven leadership experience managing teams of engineers or technicians in a high-availability setting.
Strong knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems, standards, and regulations.
Licenses & Certifications
EPA Universal Certification (CFCs) required.
Additional certifications such as Journeyman or Master Electrician, High Pressure Boiler License, or Refrigeration Certificate of Fitness are a plus.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a team of Operating Engineers in a mission-critical data center environment.
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols, building codes, and regulatory standards.
Monitor and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy management systems.
Conduct regular inspections of equipment including chillers, CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps, and generators.
Respond to and resolve emergency situations and system failures with urgency and precision.
Implement and optimize preventive maintenance programs to ensure uptime and reliability.
Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities and operational improvements.
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team management skills in a high-pressure, 24/7 operational environment.
Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnostics of complex building systems.
Familiarity with smart technologies, tablets, and web-based maintenance platforms.
Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., work in varying weather conditions, and respond to after-hours emergencies.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Operates in a professional data center and office environment.
Regular travel between facilities may be required.
Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
