JOB DESCRIPTION:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To keep the district's electrical program in such a state of operating excellence that it presents as few problems or interruptions as possible to the educational process

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Perform preventive maintenance on appliances and electrical fixtures

On-job instruction and training of electrician helper and on-job advancement training of journeyman electrician

Install new equipment, conduit for wall plugs, light sensors and timers for security lighting, classroom lighting, etc., with maintenance of same

Practice high standards of safety during performance of duties

Perform acceptance inspections on all new wiring, new construction electrical installations, etc.

Record all material and labor costs and keep utility Facilities Manager informed on costs and job progress

Willing to perform any other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager

EQUIPMENT USED:

Cable puller, tubing bender and voltmeter, hand and power tools, lifts, excavators, trenchers, various equipment and machinery.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands:

Continuous bending and stooping; continuous reaching above shoulder level, continuous driving equipment and vehicles; continuous working with machinery; frequent climbing ladders, stairs, ramps and scaffolds; frequent walking and standing

Environment:

Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperature and humidity extremes; works around all forms of electricity.

EVALUATION:

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Have qualified for and hold a current Master Electrician license

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

High School diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency at new electrical installations and electrical equipment repair

Ability to read and work from schematic drawings, mechanical blueprints and architectural plans

Must have current Texas driver's license with no major restrictions

Demonstrated ability to work and get along with people

Health sufficient to perform essential functions of the job

Demonstrated ability to lift and carry 61 or more pounds without assistance
