- Operates 10-wheel commercial trucks.
- Operate equipment, such as front-encl loader, backhoe, skid steer.
- May operate a distributor applying oils, asphalt, or tars to highway surfaces.
- May operate roller in patching county roads.
- Operates truck carrying fuel, lubricants, and lubrication equipment.
- Performs routine field lubrication of light, medium, and heavy rolling stock and equipment.
- May operate a flatbed or dump truck.
- Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
- Performs routine service and maintenance of equipment.
- Participates generally in the laboring work of the crew as workload demands.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Performs duties and responsibilities of an Equipment Operator I.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Completion of the eighth (8 th ) grade and two (2) years' experience in the operation and routine maintenance of moderately medium-sized construction and automotive equipment.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire and maintain thereafter.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire.
Must possess a valid Florida CDL Class B at the time of hire and maintain thereafter.
NOTE: A pre-employment skills test will be required.- Knowledge of the operation, routine maintenance, pre- and post-trip inspections of medium and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the component parts, operating principles, and routine maintenance needs of medium and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of medium and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of equipment.
- Skilled in the operation of moderately complex construction equipment.
- Skilled in the safe operation of flatbed and dump trucks, tractors, mowing attachments, and the less complex construction equipment.
- Ability to service various types of medium and heavy equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Heavy work. Ability to pull, push (arm and leg), lift, and carry 75 pounds. Ability to reach, climb, sit, turn (neck, body), handle, and see (near and far acuity, depth perception, field of vision). Visual acuity (depth perception, peripheral vision) necessary to operate motorized vehicles.
Environmental Demands: (Demands may change depending on assignment.) Outside work. Exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), fumes, odors, noise, vibration, dust, poor ventilation.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend operational and safety instructions, procedures, rules, policies, warnings, memos. Ability to write simple sentences relaying information, data, and details. Ability to perform basic math.
