Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The FM Tech Mechanical Trades performs under the direction of the Facilities Management HVAC Shop Supervisor.

Duties include:
  • Responsible for performing routine maintenance of HVAC equipment to ensure that equipment continues to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings do not deteriorate.
  • Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Use standard HVAC tools. This includes precision measuring instruments, electrical devices, and electronic testing devices.
  • Using knowledge and skill with Building Automation Systems (BAS) to complete tasks as needed.
  • Look up and order parts.

Minimum Experience / Education:

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

  • Associate's degree preferred in a mechanical trades or HVAC field.
  • Four years of professional HVAC experience.
  • Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge.
  • Ability to use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits
  • Experience in diagnosing mechanical problems and determine how to correct them using blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Computer knowledge of programs such as Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Ability to use standard HVAC tools. This includes precision measuring instruments, electrical devices, and electronic testing devices.
  • Ability to look up and order replacement parts using available information
  • Computer literacy required. Knowledge and skill with Google Systems, and willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • HVAC controls for Building Automation Systems experience.
