GUARDRAIL INSTALLER/GENERAL-LABORER**(summary only - other conditions may apply)Job Requirements:Key expectations and requirements of a Guardrail Installer job is the continuous ability throughout the work shift to:-safely move, drag, lift, and maneuver heavy objects(160 poundup to 25 foot length guardrail and 60 poundavg length 6.5 feet guardrail post) without injuring you or your co-worker and in a timely manner)For example 35 pounds frequently (without assistance), up to 60 pounds regularly (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend, stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes (lowhigh temps) and work aroundhigh speed traffic.-dig dirt, clean dirt from guardrail or sign footing, and manually load dirt onto trailer or wheel barrow.-maintain and man a flagging station for traffic control. This position requires full-time attention to vehicle traffic approaching and entering the work-zone. Constant standing and hand signaling.Job EnvironmentConditions:-Work outside exposed to weather (e.g., including rain, high humidity and hot temperatures in summer time and cold temperatures in winter). Boots, leather gloves, denim pants, shirt with sleeves, safety glasses, and safety vest to be worn at alltimes and may compound the effects of weather related temperature extremes.-on-going traffic;-rotating shifts (night shift);-darkness or total darkness for up to 8 hours or more-lift and physically carry 35-90 pounds unattended-exposed to unpleasant surroundings including but not limited to dead animals, containers filled with human waste (baby diapersurine bottles), spoiled food, ditches with water and sewage,-loud noise from equipment and traffic;-confined area while drivingriding truck to and from job-site;-exposure to insects such as fire-ants, wasp, hornets, bees, mosquitoes, flies, snakes, and spiders;-exposure to rodents including mice and rats;-exposure to stray animals;-exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, poison-ivy and pollen, etc.Organization History:About Alabama Guardrail-established 1974-guardrail installation and repair is our primary line of businessGuide cableHighway signsRight of way fencing-our service area is primarily the northern 2/3rds of the state (250 radius)-we average around 200 projects per year-currently employ about 36 people (as high as 49)Expectations for New Hires:Report to work every day as scheduled and on-timeHave your own transportationFollow superintendents direction and instructionWork well and respect co-workersWork safely - for yourself and others (co-workers and customers)Contribute to the successful effort of the crew you are assigned and carry your weight - team playerMaintain good health - sleep, nutrition, and hydration
