Job Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Foreman Leak Truck (FLT) operates the trucks, and heavy equipment oversees the crew that repairs, maintains and installs distribution system infrastructure, including new services, hydrants, taps. Evaluating and assessing damage and appropriate repairs needed. This includes street and land excavation to expose leaks, flush mains, perform main shutdowns; performs and directs the work and activities. Operates distribution valves, perform hydrant flow test.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Apply knowledge of mains, services and water systems to evaluate and assess new strategies to maintain customers service and water quality during repairs.

  • Oversee, perform and direct manual work with crew to maintain and/or repair all Company mains and services and appurtenances.

  • Excavate and expose service/main leaks; shut down main(s) as needed; isolate damage and repair or replace assets.

  • Operate distribution valves, flush mains, hydrants, and services.

  • Train crew members on making repairs with limited customer outages.

  • Set, remove and change all meters 5/8" through 4" meters, and in some instances large meters.

  • Prepare and operate Leak Truck daily including overseeing loading of needed materials and heavy equipment, removal and disposal of debris, and cleaning of equipment and truck as needed.

  • Perform disinfection, loading, and sampling of mains associated with repairs and new contractor installations.

  • Complete leak reports, Daily job reports, as built, and necessary paperwork as required for daily activities including heavy equipment logs related to DOL.

  • Ensures traffic control is set up properly

  • Assists the superintendent with preparing planning and scheduling for upcoming projects.

  • Operate Heavy equipment such as, backhoe, vac truck, Excavator, dump truck, and any other equipment needed for construction duties.

  • Works closely with other divisions within the company to include Water Quality, operations and Customer service to make sure everyone is aware of projects going on and the effects to the customers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A FLT must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers, contractors, city personnel, and the public; have the ability to perform mathematic functions to calculate figures, amounts, fractions, ratios, volume and circumference, and apply practical solutions; have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, designs, blue prints, schematics, construction plans and provide input to assure compliance with standards and regulations; and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent

  • A valid Washington Class A CDL Driver's license with Tanker endorsement and be insurable under the Company's policy.

  • A FLT must have a working knowledge of basic features of word processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Word) and electronic mail processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Outlook).

  • The job entails an understanding and knowledge of water quality specifications for chlorine content, pH, water temperature, other essential water quality parameters, as well as National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) rules and regulations.

  • Washington State Water Distribution Manager II and Cross connection control specialist certification is required. Forklift and heavy lift certification required in 12 months.

WORK HOURS

The work schedule is 5 days per week, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with some overtime.

Salary Range: $71,300 - $130,400
