Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an HVAC Mechanic II on the Dahlonega campus. This position requires the ability to help maintain the HVAC systems in a University setting. Work involves skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices of installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of HVAC Systems and equipment, plus additional skill in the diagnosis of problems in complex control or environmental systems. Requires occasional cell phone contact outside of typical hours, mostly for emergency situations such as random weather emergencies, building issues, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Services air conditioning, heating units and refrigeration by repairing or replacing parts on condensers, compressors and water and vacuum pumps.
  • Tests refrigeration equipment for leaks and repairs or adjusts valves, piping connections, fittings and couplings.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC Systems and equipment, kitchen equipment, and other building systems machinery and equipment.
  • Trouble-shoots large equipment such as chillers, lab equipment, and kitchen equipment.
  • Diagnoses system problems and facilitates corrective action.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, materials, tools and equipment of refrigeration, air conditioning, and/or heating equipment operation, maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Skill in locating and correcting defects in refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and related equipment, skill in the use of tools and equipment in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of HVAC and mechanical system experience.
  • EPA Certified Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
