Mechanic/Welder Ada County Highway District is now accepting applications for the position of Mechanic/Welder in the Fleet Department. Starting wage is $25.10 - $28.90 per hour / DOQ. Primary Responsibilities: The Mechanic/Welder is responsible for welding, cutting and heating various broken machine parts and castings as well as laying out and cutting steel from flats, channels and angle irons. The incumbent operates hand and power tools such as a grinding machine, power hammer, power hack saw or sheet metal roll and break. Performs mechanical repairs to trucks, automobiles, and heavy construction equipment. Qualifications: Must have considerable knowledge of metals, alloys and standard shop practices and techniques used in welding, cutting, brazing, heating and shaping metals. Must have considerable knowledge of welding, fabrication and equipment repair hazards and safety precautions. The incumbent must supply his/her own tools. Must have AWS certifications in stick, MIG, TIG or obtain them within the first 6-months of employment. Must have considerable experience as a welder/fabricator including experience in the repair and general maintenance of heavy-duty construction equipment; completion of a recognized apprenticeship or schooling program; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities.
