Forklift Operator - Shipping

We are seeking an experienced Forklift Operator for our sister company, Bayou Processing & Storage, in east Houston. Forklift Operator moves material and product as directed.

Responsibilities:

• Performs daily inspection
• Reports all deficiencies, unusual noises, or difficulties in operation of the equipment
• Identifies material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and coil number
• Determines weight of material and utilizes forklift with the appropriate capacity
• Properly secures material on the forklift before moving
• Ensures a safe workplace by maintaining awareness of co-workers in the area
• Advises all co-workers in the area before movement of material on overhead crane
• Follows all company policy procedures, watches for potential risks in the area and notifies management of deficiencies identified
• Attends all training and safety meetings as directed
• Assists with stock checks and physical counts
• Performs other tasks as directed

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of related experience
• Familiar with safe work practices and procedures
• Knowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment, and rigging
• Ability to move large-sized thin-gauge sheet coils in a safe manner
• Ability to calculate the weights of material
• Professional communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to traverse the distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
