Maintenance Supervisor

TAMKO is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for the manufacturing facility in Frederick, Maryland. The Maintenance Supervisor directs and coordinates technicians responsible for the maintenance and installation of equipment across the manufacturing facility. This role also leads efforts to modernize maintenance practices through data-driven tools, automation technologies, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Lead small team of technicians and hourly department leaders. Manage direct report performance, attendance, and development within the department.
  • Ensure all members of team comply with TAMKO Safety and Environmental programs
  • Review job notifications to determine work priorities.
  • Manage work order backlog and synchronizes work activities with plant schedule, manpower availability, etc.
  • Schedule repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment within areas of responsibility to ensure uninterrupted production operations.
  • Develop and manage the execution of the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff for areas of responsibility.
  • Utilize AI-powered tools and language models to support troubleshooting, streamline documentation, and enhance daily decision-making efficiency.
  • Support the application of digital technologies such as predictive analytics and machine learning models to monitor equipment health and detect emerging failure modes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and IT to implement and improve automation projects, including systems that gather and analyze process and equipment performance data.
  • Review key process metrics and maintenance KPIs using digital dashboards and use data to plan and modify maintenance activities.
  • Review data/results from predictive maintenance inspections and draw upon experience/knowledge to take meaningful actions to resolve problems.
  • Ensure maintenance processes are documented and consistently followed within area of responsibility.
  • Direct training and supervise technician workforce to improve work efficiency and performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Support the preparation of the department budget and monitor expenditure of funds in budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with an Engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university. An additional 5 years of experience (15 years total) in an industrial manufacturing environment can replace the education requirement provided the other requirements for the position are met.
  • Minimum of five to ten years of manufacturing experience.
  • Formal Six Sigma Methodology/Lean training and certification is a plus. Candidate will be required to achieve Six Sigma Certification through TAMKO within the first 3-5 years of employment.
  • Experience leading teams both within and across departments to solve problems.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills, particularly in guiding technicians through evolving technologies and plant upgrades.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and continuous improvement initiatives involving automation or digitization.
  • Adaptability to learn and apply new tools, including AI-assisted platforms, data analytics dashboards, and condition-monitoring systems.
  • Occasional travel for technical skills training and other professional development opportunities.

Digital & Technical Skills

  • Working familiarity with plant utility systems, mechanical process equipment, aggregate handling/conveying, process control systems, and facility infrastructure systems.
  • Proficiency using CMMS, data dashboards, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn predictive maintenance tools (vibration, thermal imaging, oil analysis).
  • Familiarity with or exposure to digital twin technology, machine learning applications in maintenance, and IoT-based monitoring systems.
  • Competency in using AI-powered support tools (e.g., digital assistants, advanced troubleshooting platforms).

Work Schedule & Availability

  • This is a salaried, full-time, weekday daytime position based at the Frederick manufacturing facility.
  • Flexibility is required for early morning, evening, or weekend support depending on plant needs, equipment issues, or project timelines.

  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with the assistance of another person.

  • The employee must be able to operate a computer and other office equipment; must be able to traverse the office and production floors.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may work around moving mechanical parts, at elevated heights, where dusts and fumes could be present in the air, with or in proximity to chemicals, in hot environments, around electrical equipment, and in a loud environment. The employee must have the ability to understand and mitigate these and other risks, including by following all prescribed safety rules, and must have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, if necessary.
