Mechanical Engineer - Product Design Location: Onsite - Sunnyvale, CA Duration: 12 Months Contract on W2 (Possible Extension) Job Description: Seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead the development and integration of new technologies into functional prototypes and maturing systems. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to validate product functionality and assess technology readiness for consumer electronics or similar high-volume products. Responsibilities: Lead technology development projects by creating functional prototypes and developing test methodologies. Support R D initiatives through the design of systems and test vehicles for new technology studies. Design mechanical components and assemblies for consumer electronics. Develop electromechanical and optomechanical systems for testing and validation. Implement and manage validation test methods for design robustness. Assist in the creation of technical specifications and product definitions. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including electrical, firmware/software, audio, optical, reliability, and manufacturing engineers. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum 5 years of experience designing and shipping components or systems in consumer electronics or similar mid-to-high volume manufacturing industries. Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including: Material science (plastics, metals, gaskets, thermal materials) Heat transfer Statics and dynamics Structural design Experience with: Production drawings and tolerance analysis PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) and FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) design and manufacturing Prototyping and shop fabrication of parts and assemblies Various manufacturing processes: injection molding, machining, sheet metal, CNC, co-molding High proficiency in 3D CAD software, especially Siemens NX. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Over 10 years of experience designing for consumer electronics or similar high-volume industries. Cross-industry experience in product design and manufacturing. Experience with: Mechanism design and highly cosmetic parts Thermal design and cooling of electronics Sensor integration and optomechanical design Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for statics, dynamics, thermal, and fluid mechanics Reliability and compliance testing Basic hardware automation, microcontrollers, and electronics familiarity Required Skills Summary: 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for mid-to-high volume production. Solid engineering fundamentals in materials, heat transfer, statics/dynamics, and structure. Familiarity with PCBA/FPC design and modern manufacturing methods. Strong hands-on prototyping and CAD (NX) skills. Desirable Skills: Data analysis with tools such as MATLAB, Python, or JMP. Experience preparing production drawings and technical documentation.
