We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team. The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and the overall fiscal functions of DEW, subsidiaries, and/or related companies. You will manage internal and external accounting operations and procedures such as compliance, financial controls, forecasts and reports, treasury, tax, audit, and other accounting operations. In collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, you will support organizational transformation, maximize financial performance, protect company assets, and allocate capital in alignment with DEW's overall purpose, vision, and strategy. The Controller will also be responsible for mentoring and developing the accounting department to ensure that the department contributes to the overall financial improvement of the company.
This position will work closely with the CEO, EVP, VP of Operations, VP of Preconstruction, VP of Technology, General Counsel, Safety Manager, HR/Risk Manager, External CPA & Tax Advisors, Surety & Insurance Brokers, Commercial Banks, JV Partners, State & Federal Regulators.
This is a strategically designed twostep position for an accomplished Controller who is ready to broaden scope and ascend to CFO within approximately five years. You will begin by owning all traditional controllership functions-accurate books, disciplined close, rigorous controls, tax, audit, jobcost integrity, and exceptional service to operations. In parallel, you will shadow the current CFO, take on progressively deeper responsibility for treasury, capital structure, risk management, data governance, and enterprise strategy, and ultimately step into the CFO seat upon the incumbent's planned retirement.
The ideal candidate is a constructionindustry finance professional who combines handson GAAP/percentageofcompletion expertise with forwardlooking business acumen, leadership presence, and the curiosity to leverage technology and data analytics to drive profitable growth.

Essential Functions:
Accounting Operations & Internal Control
Own endtoend accounting cycles: AP, AR, billing, payroll, fixed assets, , intercompany, consolidations, revenue recognition (ASC 606), jointventure cost sharing, and percentageofcompletion schedules.
Maintain and continuously strengthen internal controls, segregation of duties, and documentation in accordance with SOX guidelines and surety expectations.
Facilitate annual external audit, workerscomp audits, state sales/use tax audits, client/project audits, and owner "open book" reviews; resolve findings within 30 days.
Develop a formal internal audit/operational review program
Financial Close, Reporting & Analytics
Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP financials, WIP, backlog, labor productivity dashboards, and costtocomplete analytics to leadership within committed timeline.
Coordinate with Operations VPs to reconcile project forecasts to general ledger and ensure alignment of margin fade/gain analysis.
Prepare boardlevel reporting packages, including trend analysis, covenant ratios, and KPIs tied to the strategic plan.
Budgeting, Forecasting & LongRange Planning
Lead annual budgeting process-partner with division leaders to set revenue, margin, overhead, and cash targets; roll up to enterprise plan with scenario modeling.
Maintain 24month rolling forecast updated monthly.
Treasury & Capital Structure Management
Manage daily liquidity, debt compliance, borrowing base, and LOC/bonding capacity.
Negotiate credit facilities, surety programs, and equipment financing; prepare quarterly bank packages and bonding company reports.
Implement corporate card and electronic payment programs to optimize float and rebates.
Risk Management, Insurance & Compliance
Collaborate with Legal/Risk to evaluate project, subcontractor, and vendor risk; oversee financial prequalification system for subs/vendors.
Support placement and renewal of GL, Builders' Risk, OCIP/CCIP, professional liability, and cyber policies; analyze loss runs and propose deductible/captive options.
Ensure sales/use tax, multistate payroll taxes, and licensing requirements are timely and accurate.
Systems & Process Improvement / Digital Transformation
Serve as business owner for ERP (e.g., CMiC) and related modules.
Champion tech stack integrations: expense management, AP automation, timekeeping, document management.
Lead or colead upcoming ERP migration/upgrade.
Leadership, Culture & Talent Development
Inspire a highperformance, servantleadership culture that exemplifies our core values.
Institute quarterly development dialogs and individualized career paths for each team member; track progress in talentmanagement system.
Coordinate crosstraining rotation between GL, jobcost, and payroll teams.
Succession Plan:
Years 0-2 | Master the Core
Lead daytoday accounting, monthly close, WIP schedules, and GAAP/ASC 606 compliance.
Upgrade processes, controls, and ERP/financial systems; establish data integrity standards.
Build trust with project teams by translating data into actionable project insights.
Own treasury, cash forecasting, AP/AR, payroll, and bonding/insurance reporting.
Years 2-4 | Broaden the Lens
- Partner with the CEO on annual strategic planning and enterprise budgeting.
Drive marginimprovement and costreduction initiatives across regional and selfperform groups.
Lead banking and surety relationships; participate in JV evaluations.
Mentor newly promoted managers within accounting.
Years 4-5 | Step Into CFO
- Assume full responsibility for risk management, capital allocation, and debt/equity strategy.
Present quarterly results and forwardlooking guidance to the Board and ownership group.
Champion data governance and companywide KPI dashboards.
Serve as a key voice in shaping culture, growth strategy, and technology investments.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Required

Construction job costing, WIP, and revenue recognition expertise
Advanced financial modeling and forecasting
Executive presence-comfortable presenting to C Suite, lenders, and bonding companies
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
7-12 years progressive accounting experience, at least 3 years in construction or a related project-driven industry
Demonstrated leadership of an accounting team and full monthly close cycle
Solid GAAP knowledge; familiarity with ASC 606
Advanced Excel and ERP proficiency
Preferred
CPA or CMA
MBA or MS Accounting
Experience with CMiC, Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300, or similar construction ERPs
