DESCRIPTION

General: The Acting Company seeks a Lighting Supervisor (LX Sup) for their 2025-2026 National Tour. The position serves as department head for the lighting department. The LX Sup joins the production during its design and rehearsal process in NYC while beginning the tour advance with the Production Manager (PM) and Technical Director (TD). The LX Sup will tech the production at its regional presenting theatre with the rest of the technical tour staff. While on the road, the LX Sup is responsible for overseeing the installation, focus, and troubleshooting of all the production's lighting elements on a day-to-day basis. The LX Sup will be a leader on the tour and must be dedicated to creating safe, open, and productive workspaces.

Company Information: The Acting Company (theactinpany) is a fifty-year-old theatrepany dedicated to developing artists and audiences through national repertory tours. This season's two show repertory will include an adaptation of Great Expectations by Nikki Massoud (directed by Devin Brain) and William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (directed by Risa Brainin). The rep will rehearse in NYC, tech and run at a regional presenting theatre in November 2025 in Ventura, CA, before touring nationally from January 2026 - March 2026 in a wide variety of theatrical venues from The Library Theatre in Hoover, AL to State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ.

Responsibilities:

-Resolve issues of scale, budget, scheduling, design, and tour-ability of the production's lighting design, working with the PM, TD, and Lighting design team during design and pre-production process.

-Communicateplete and accurate information about the lighting plot to venue personnel during tour advance and adapting lighting needs to the available resources, serving as primary lighting liaison between tour and venues.

-Create custom lighting plots for each venue on the road, considering design, load in timing, crew, the technical space, and inventory, submitting initial and final documents according to the advance timeline.

-Adapt focus and cueing to each new space while maintaining the design.

-Assist lighting load-in and notes during tech to prepare for putting the show on the road after its initial run.

-Prep, restock, and maintain lighting tour kit.

-Supervise local crew with the focusing of the lighting instruments in each venue. Check pre-hung instruments, cabling, and patching.

-Run the light board for the shows at the discretion of the stage manager and TD throughout tour.

-Assist in unloading and loading of truck, under the direction of the TD.

-Ensure that all lighting equipment is fully repaired, maintained, cleaned, and packed for storage and the following tour.

-Process all returns of rented or borrowed lighting equipment at the end of the tour.

Qualifications:

-At least 5 years of experience in technical theatrical lighting, technical direction, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of programmable consoles, electrical power, moving lamps and fixtures.

-Able to lift up to 50 lbs., push/pull 100lbs, stand for extended periods of time (3+ hours), navigate multiple levels of stairs.

-Able to work at a height and hang, focus, and cable instruments. Genie experience a plus.

-Able to program in ETC Eos based software or similar software.

-Able to draft in Vectorworks and program in Lightwright.

-Previous experience with theatrical touring or travel is a plus.

-A valid US driver's license is a plus.

-Must have NYC housing for pre-production weeks. Housing provided during Tech process and Tour.

Timeline:

-June - September 2025: Pre-Production / Tour Advance

--LX Sup works hourly (~10-20 hrs/week), as needed for design process and tour advance

--Remote work possible, hours flexible

--$27/hour

-September - November 2025: Rehearsal Support / Tour Advance

--September 23rd, 2025: First Day of Great Expectations Rehearsal

--October 7th, 2025: First Day of A Midsummer Night's Dream Rehearsal

--LX Sup works hourly, as needed forpany introductions, initial rehearsal setup, production/design meetings, and tour advance.

--$27/hour

-November 16th - December 6th, 2025: Tech & Previews in Ventura, CA

--LX Sup begins full-time, onsite work for Tech, Previews, and Tour Advance

--$1,240/week

-December 7th, 2025 - December 24th, 2026: Tour Advance & Prep

--LX Sup advances tour with tour staff

--Remote possible 12/7-12/19, 12/19-12/24 strike in Ventura, CA.

--$1,240/week, pro-rated for holiday week

-January 5th - January 11th, 2026: Tour Advance & Prep in New York, NY

--LX Sup advances tour with tour staff and preps tour equipment

--$1,240/week

-January 12th - February 22nd, 2026: National Tour

--LX Sup works full-time on the road

--Dates include a final week post tour to pack the show, make returns, finish final paperwork

--$1,240/week

-February 23rd - March 1, 2026: Pack up

--LX Sup works hourly as needed to unpack truck, return rentals, and clean up kit (20-40 hrs)

--$27/hour

Salary:

$1,240/week while in production. Pre-production work will be paid on an hourly basis ($27/hr) as needed. Once in production, the position is overtime exempt. Housing provided on the road.
