Electrician $5180 - $6612* monthly
*Future general salary increases include: 4 % Increase effective July 2025 3% Increase effective July 2026
Starting wage will be commensurate with the experience, qualifications, and skills of successful candidates and based on the needs of the Public Works Department.
POSITION:
As an Electrician, you will handle the maintenance and repairs for all city buildings and facilities including 71 buildings, 32 park facilities, and all city-owned electrical equipment. Duties include general electrical and HVAC maintenance, general repairs, parking structure maintenance, swimming pool maintenance and repair, street light maintenance, and a variety of other related projects.

Education/Training/Experience :
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Graduation from high school

    AND

  • Three years of journey level experience in various types of electrical installation and repair.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Class C California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • Appropriate General Electrician Certification by Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs and must be available for callbacks.

  • Per California Government Code §3100-3109, all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and must take and subscribe to the oath of affirmation as required.

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Electrician will be placed on an eligible list for this classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a background and medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees that are appointed to safety-sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified by the State of California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a 12-month probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a 6-month probationary period.
