Graduation from high school or GED, with four (4) years of verifiable experience in the plumbing trade plus four (4) years of experience in the general maintenance trades. Certification as a Journeyman Plumber (Brevard County license) required or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Note: Employee will be responsible for maintaining CEUs (continuing education units) for their Journeyman or Master license if required.
Code 1:Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident by incident basis, the employees Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
Under limited supervision, performs highly skilled work at the experienced Journeyman Plumber level performing various plumbing installation, maintenance and repair tasks. Duties require the application of standard trade practices in maintaining and installing a variety of plumbing systems and fixtures. Includes responsibility for determining materials and work methods used per applicable plumbing and building codes. Job requires knowledge of other building trade skills, such as carpentry, painting and/or assisting heating and air conditioning equipment installation. Mentors Plumber I Apprentice. Reports to the Facilities Division Manager or designee as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Able to work with Building Department with permitting of work.
Installs new plumbing, including pipes, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, hot water heaters, and a wide variety of other plumbing fixtures, facilities, and equipment.
Repairs old plumbing, including fixtures and pipelines, clean and open traps, drains and other lines.
Solders and repairs copper pipes.
Researches and designs solutions to complex plumbing system issues.
Enters data on work orders electronically or on paper.
Produces estimates and creates lists of materials required for jobs.
Creates preventative maintenance schedules and conducts preventative maintenance on plumbing fixtures and systems.
Performs skilled plumbing tasks on water and sewer systems, as well as pumps and sprinkler systems and lift stations.
Understands City Energy Conservation policies and ensures forward Citywide progress.
Conducts annual inspections and testing.
May perform limited carpentry or other tasks related to the installation and servicing of plumbing systems.
May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays. May be required to respond to after hour calls.
Trains and mentors Plumber I Apprentice.
Performs general maintenance trades work as needed.
