We have one (1) opening for an 8-hour, 12-month employee in Maintenance Department. The work hours for this position are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

BASIC FUNCTION
Under general supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations, Facilities Development & Transportation or designee, perform a variety of skilled repairs on engines and specialized mechanical equipment used by the Grounds Department; perform metal fabrication and welding; to assist in performing skilled maintenance and repair to a variety of other motorized equipment; and to do other related work as required. Incumbents in this classification provide students, staff, and the public with well-maintained and safe building infrastructure and facilities, including locking and security systems, which directly support learning.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
One (1) year of experience at a journey level in small engine repair and welding.
Education:
Equivalent to completion of High School, supplemented by coursework or training in gasoline, diesel or small engine repair, welding, or other closely related areas.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT
? Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License to drive District-assigned vehicles and equipment
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
? Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier
? Participation in the District's random drug-testing program Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
? Inspect and diagnose mechanical defects on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and electric carts
? Review mechanical repair orders and determine required maintenance and repairs
? Observe, listen, and diagnose mechanical defects and malfunctions
? Perform regular maintenance on gasoline and diesel-powered equipment
? Perform metal fabrication and welding pertaining to a variety of equipment, fencing, and metal structures
? Rebuild, replace, or overhaul engines, clutches, carburetion systems, electrical systems, and other mechanical assemblies
? Perform engine tune-ups and ignition system adjustments
? Use a variety of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, and a variety of mechanical aids in the repair, adjustment, and maintenance of motorized equipment
? Rebuild and repair lawnmowers, edgers, and blowers
? Estimate the time and materials needed to affect the diagnosed equipment maintenance or repair
? Review drawings and operational schematics and make rough sketches pertaining to rebuilding, repair, and maintenance work projects
? May sharpen and change blades, and adjust mowing and trimming equipment
? Repair and maintain small hand and power tools
? May drive a District vehicle in the performance of job duties
? Participate in various large projects such as moving furniture and equipment, large setups or other activities (e.g. summer moves, new construction, special events, graduation, setting up benches) that may not involve repairing equipment or welding

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
? Persons performing service in this position classification will be expected to perform heavy work that involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work. (Per the Code of Federal Regulations Section 404.1567 Physical Exertion Requirements)

BENEFITS : Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.

Fingerprinting: Employees will be charged for processing their fingerprints at the time they are hired. The fingerprints are used to complete a confidential background investigation. Physical Examination: Newly hired employees must pass a qualifying Medical examination given by a District-appointed physician, which includes testing for illegal controlled substances.
Tuberculosis Exam: Newly hired employees must submit a Mantoux Skin screening and certificate of completion within the past 60 days that indicates freedom from active tuberculosis.
Immigration Reform and Control Act Of 1986: An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.
