FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Location: Dublin, OH Job Summary: We're seeking a skilled Designer with a strong background in mechanical design who can work independently while collaborating across teams. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with Sales and Engineering teams to maintain design standards and drive continuous improvement in submittal processes. Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure manufacturability of designs involving brake-formed, punched, and laser-cut sheet metal components. Review project files for completeness; gather required information and produce accurate CAD designs for submittal packages. Interpret building codes, specifications, and technical documents, including analyzing tables and charts to determine compliance requirements and perform calculations, run equations, and apply engineering math daily to ensure precise designs. Apply sheet metal design principles including bend allowances, tolerances, and flat pattern development to ensure accurate part fabrication and fit-up. Design for assembly using welding, mechanical fastening (rivets, bolts, screws), and other joining methods suitable for HVAC and industrial applications. Maintain familiarity with standard hardware catalogs (e.g., McMaster-Carr, Fastenal) for part selection and substitution during design and production. Ensure submittal packages are accurate for both field installation and factory production. Communicate effectively with client project teams to clarify design intent and resolve field installation concerns. Generate bills of materials and ensure alignment with Customer Service, Production, and Sales teams for pricing and release. Develop detailed product and application drawings primarily using AutoCAD, with additional proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D parametric design platforms. Analyze and detail hardware requirements, selecting appropriate nuts, bolts, washers, clips, brackets, and other fasteners based on strength, environmental exposure, and ease of installation. Integrate general shipping and logistics knowledge into designs, ensuring components are modular, labeled, and packaged efficiently for crating, transport, and on-site assembly. Respond to technical inquiries promptly and professionally. Qualifications: Associate's degree in Drafting, Design, Engineering Technology, or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred; or 10+ years of design experience in a manufacturing or construction environment. Proficient in AutoCAD (2009 or later), SolidWorks (or comparable parametric design tools), and the full Microsoft Office Suite with focus on excel. Solid mathematical skills with the ability to perform design-related calculations and apply engineering principles. Knowledge of structural systems: concrete, wood-framed, steel-framed, RCP, and MEP components (preferred). Working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), including the ability to interpret related charts, tables, and compliance requirements Experience with sheet metal manufacturing processes, including familiarity with tolerances, finishes, and forming techniques. Working knowledge of common hardware types and applications, including selection criteria and sourcing practices. Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Basic familiarity with shipping methods (LTL, freight, international), packaging standards, and inventory coordination preferred.
