Description for Candidates:

Perform a combination of equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks related to roadway maintenance. Perform a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance and manual labor tasks to maintain Virginia's roadways. Perform a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance. Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee. Perform special duties as assigned. Provide support related to contracts for assigned program area. Ensure contracts are developed or monitored effectively and in compliance with VDOT policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines. Provide technical advice, guidance and training regarding assigned engineering program areas. Prepare analyses, reports, and recommendations based on engineering determinations. Provide engineering support and consultaiton related to engineering program area. Effectively manage assigned projects to ensure timely and accurate completion. Communicate with internal VDOT staff, local government staff, consultants, citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs. Responsible for managing the full scope of work activities related to assigned maintenance programs and operations for assigned areas. Serve as a member and leader of a work crew performing a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance and manual labor tasks in order to maintain Virginia's roadways. Serve as a member of a ferry boat crew adhering to all U.S. Coast Guard and VDOT regulations while representing VDOT in positive manner. Serve as a senior analyst, and coordinate with a variety of entities on complex transportation planning activities and programs. Conduct complex technical analyses to support the program. Support Public Affairs Manager, District Administrator and other VDOT staff regarding internal and external communications. Support includes local, state and federal audiences, media, government officials, non-profit, private sector and general public. Establish and maintain effective relationships with media. Maintain employee publications and internet site, web content, external newsletters, press releases, brochures, reports and outreach initiatives. To repair, maintain and replace bridges and structures in accordance with established safety standards, VDOT specifications and procedures, and equipment operation standards.
