Description
Job Summary:
The Drafter reports to the Executive Director of Capital Planning and Construction and is responsible for the management, planning, development and execution of a comprehensive program of technical support services which include management of facility Computer Aided Design (CAD) files, quality assurance inspections, and facilities space management.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
Provides advanced technical computer aided drafting skills consisting of compiling and organizing engineering data into a usable form for design of building structures, renovations, additions, and changes to ongoing construction projects.
Provides technical support for internal and external customer requests for information and service related to all aspects of building and campus documentation.
Maintains drawing and blueprint control file.
Updates existing building drawings and documentation by field verifying building conditions and changes in building services.
Assists in conducting preliminary field surveys, develop design concepts and design criteria, and prepare reports, calculations, conceptual designs and construction documents.
Develops installation plans and working drawings as required to develop and determine feasibility of proposed projects and requested department relocations that are in accordance with Office Space Standards and Guidelines.
Maintains departmental databases that provide information on: square footage allocation, survey data, manuals, keying, signage and way-finding, and other pertinent building components.
Conducts space utilization surveys to increase the overall effectiveness of facilities utilization and management.
Assists in preparing technical designs for door signage (card stock inserts, raised lettering on plastic, or machine cut vinyl).
Performs programming, code research, material and building systems research, laying out program components and calculating program and building areas.
Performs site surveys and field reviews to accurately document existing and new construction conditions.
Proposes strategies to address various environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability.
Actively participates in Facilities Inventory Audit prepared annually for Accounting in preparation for the Reimbursements for Medicare and Medicaid Cost reports.
Additional responsibilities may include preparation and submission of U.T. System and State reports including the Capital Improvement Program Report, Room & Building Inventory Reports and updates to the Campus Master Plan.
May assist in the training and evaluation of assigned design/drafting personnel.
Assists the Executive Director of Capital Planning and Construction with other projects as assigned.

Customer Satisfaction. Ensures a high level of internal and external customer satisfaction with departmental operations. Also ensures a high level of internal customer satisfaction among employees, students, physicians, and other departments. Selects and monitors specific customer satisfaction indicators as directed. Follows policies and procedures to ensure projects are well managed and in sound financial condition. Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations; consistent, fair and rational administration of policies and procedures; and timeliness in meeting deadlines.
Financial Activities. Ensures appropriate spending; and established procurement rules are followed.
Human Resources. Mandatory training compliance. Successfully builds teamwork departmentally and between departments.
Code of Conduct. Conducts business with the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct. Assures support of and compliance with UT Tyler's Fraud Policy.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. College level education in Drafting, Construction Management or a related field is preferred.
At least 1 year of experience in computer aided design technology with CAD certification preferred.
A working knowledge of construction management principles, practices and procedures and knowledge of applicable laws and government regulations.
