POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
KKCS is seeking an experienced Senior Project Cost Estimator to support LAUSD’s Project Execution team. This is a high-impact role responsible for delivering accurate and timely cost estimates on major construction projects. The ideal candidates will bring strong analytical skills, supervisory experience, and a deep knowledge of building construction cost estimation and change order evaluations. The position is full-time, W2, contract, and onsite.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and participate in preparing comprehensive construction cost estimates from drawings, specifications, and project outlines.
- Evaluate cost submissions for grant and funding applications and represent the District on funding-related matters.
- Review and compare estimates from external architects and engineers, negotiating differences and resolving discrepancies.
- Conduct cost variance studies, change order analyses, and claims evaluations.
- Support bidding procedures, contract compliance, and approval processes.
- Maintain cost databases, develop budgeting tools, and provide training/workshops related to cost estimating and school construction practices.
- Estimate costs related to damages caused by fire, disasters, or vandalism.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of professional experience preparing complete cost estimates for Type I, II, III, and V building construction (State Building Code-defined).
- 2+ years of supervisory experience.
- Proven experience in change order analysis, scope development, and contractor proposal evaluations.
- Strong understanding of local labor and material costs in construction.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management from an accredited college or university.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to perform independent cost comparisons and detailed scope-based estimates.
- Proficient in evaluating contractor claims and proposals.
