The Estimator reports directly to the Chief Estimator and VP/GM for all assigned estimating duties. The Estimator is ultimately a member of the Estimating and Sales Team. This position is accountable for the development and submission of detailed and accurate estimates and required deliverables as well as supporting post bid submission customer requirements. This position includes responsibility for communication and reporting to the corporate office and for collaboration with the VP/GM. The Estimator is responsible for achieving the defined project goals and adhering to the professional standards of the company. This role is process-oriented, requiring excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under pressure. The Estimator is also responsible for taking the initiative to complete work thoroughly while executing work within required deadlines. Success is defined by the following 3 categories: 1. Sales - Meeting Goals for contracts awarded set by VP/GM 2. Productivity - Meeting Goals for bid volume and number of bids set by VP/GM 3. Customer Service - Maintaining business relationships with customers Experience 1-4 years of experience of OST/Quik Bid or similar software Construction/Carpentry field experience preferred Project Management experience preferred General Contractor estimating experience Highly proficient in computers and software Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive decision-making. High School Diploma/GED required Bachelor's degree in an industry-related field, such as construction management or building science preferred Qualities Assertiveness - Ability to act in a self-confident manner to facilitate completion of tasks/work. Communication, Oral and Written - Ability to communicate effectively with others. Multitask - Able to deal with multiple tasks while simultaneously working under pressure to meet or exceed expectations. Organized - Possessing the trait of being organized or following a systematic method of performing a task. Time Management - Prioritize tasks by significance and deadline. Willingness to Learn - The desire to gain knowledge and develop skills to improve your work performance. Responsibilities The Estimator responsibilities include project set up, updating estimating calendar, tracking of bid wins and losses. Specific Responsibilities include: Performance Measures Timely bid submissions Exceeding customer expectations with prompt detailed responses as required when potential bids are being reviewed/descoped Maintains a positive relationship with customers, vendors, and subcontractors Meeting Bid Volume and Number of Bids set by Chief Estimator Meeting Quarterly and Annual Sales Goals for Contracts Awarded Productivity: Review estimating Calendar for assignments Confirm bid dates with customers and communicate with Estimating team Perform in depth review of plans and specifications for projects intended to bid Review and Report RFP bid requirements to Chief Estimator and VP/GM Provide thorough takeoff of plans for estimate development Obtaining material and subcontract pricing from vendors and descope for completeness Utilize industry best practices for incorporating direct costs, indirect costs, support costs, and overhead into project estimates Determine labor productions for tasks within the estimate Develop RFP deliverables that are of the highest quality, accuracy and coincide with RFP expectations/requirements. Peer check and participate in bid reviews Ability to present estimates to management in the review process Follow up with customers to obtain bid results regularly Participate in contract turnover meetings with Management and Operations Team Data Management Download Contract Documents from customer and organize in e files Work with Estimating Admin Assistant to upload project documents to the designated areas Ability to simultaneously work on multiple estimates Overlay new drawings over older drawings in OST Organize and compare multiple material and/or subcontractor pricing Enter projects post bid into Bidding Status spreadsheet Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance Other duties as assigned
