Welder Fitter

Location: Nationwide travel-based roles with possible job sites in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania FlexTrades is seeking skilled Welder Fitters for project-based assignments across the country. If you have strong blueprint reading, fitting, and tack welding skills in a structural steel environment, this is your opportunity to earn top pay, guaranteed overtime, and full benefits while working on impactful industrial projects. Job Responsibilities Perform layout, fitting, and tack welding of structural steel components Work with materials including shear plates (3/8? to 1?), clip angles, channels, end plates, girders, beams, columns, gussets, and more Execute tack welds using MIG (.045? electrodes) and Flux Core (spray transfer) welding processes Operate overhead cranes (5-ton) for material handling and staging Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and WPS documentation Ensure high-quality, spec-accurate tacking for downstream full seam welders Fit and secure components for bolt-up installation in the field Use shop equipment such as brakes, drills, plasma cutters, saws, and camber machines Maintain precision in measurement and layout using imperial units (inches) Work primarily in the flat position with single-pass tack welds Bring and use your own chipping hammer Candidate Requirements Proven experience fitting structural steel components Excellent blueprint reading and measurement skills (imperial/standard) Solid understanding of fillet and groove weld joint configurations Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Comfortable working 2nd or 3rd shift and 50+ hours per week Willingness to travel and commit to long-term assignments (3-12 months) Must pass a drug test prior to employment Compensation & Benefits Pay: $30/hour Guaranteed overtime paid at time and a half Paid travel to and from job sites Paid lodging in single-occupancy hotel rooms Per diem: $45/day Access to a full suite of benefits Flexible time-off between assignments Opportunities to work on high-impact industrial and construction projects FlexTrades is an equal opportunity / affirmative action employer.
