Estimator The Estimator will work closely with customers, account managers, manufacturing representatives, in-house technical personnel, and other key partners to generate an accurate project quote, determine how long the project will take to complete (labor estimate), and, in collaboration with upper management, determine the expected revenue for the project. The Estimator considers factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment rental, manufacturing locations, facility costs, and required permits and licensing. Responsibilities and Duties: Serve as the technical lead for bids and estimates involving system deployments, upgrades, and expansions Support Sales staff in estimating installation, staging, and configuration costs Work closely with the capture team to ensure technical accuracy in equipment, configuration, and labor estimates Maintain effective communication between sales, operations, and engineering teams Attend site visits and job walks as needed Provide consultation on planning project schedules and manpower needs Complete take-offs to calculate cable footage and assess distance limitations Handle pressure and meet extreme deadlines when required Lead engineering, design, and configuration efforts for sales proposals Assist in the preparation of proposal documents and manufacturer documentation Ensure equipment and configuration estimates are accurate Provide a full turnover package at project award including: Contracted proposal with scope of work Up-to-date vendor quotes Subcontracted labor quotes (if applicable) Travel cost calculations Shop drawings with mark-ups or notes aligned to scope Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications: Proven experience as an Estimator or in a similar role, with knowledge of standard estimating procedures and platforms Ability to understand or determine building codes and local jurisdiction requirements (e.g., permitting, licensing) Strong interpersonal and communication skills Strong math, analytical, and attention-to-detail capabilities Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks Ability to interpret complex documents and solve problems independently Proficient in designing A/V, Access Control, and/or Security Systems with appropriate infrastructure Confident in presenting and supporting conclusions Skill Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalency required Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project) BIM and AutoCAD experience is a plus Strong problem-solving, math, and communication abilities 3-5 years of industry sales experience preferred Familiarity with office software and phone systems Interaction with Others: Must follow company policies, take direction, collaborate constructively with coworkers, listen to suggestions for improvement, communicate work progress, meet deadlines, and maintain respectful interactions across a diverse workforce. Experience: 3-5 years of related experience and/or training required. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, write correspondence, and communicate effectively in English with both internal and external stakeholders. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions where only limited standardization exists. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license required (Driving is a job requirement) Subject to company's Fleet Safety Program First-Aid and CPR Certification - a plus Manufacturer Certifications - a plus Industry Certifications - a plus Physical Demands: Frequently required to: stand, walk, handle objects, reach, climb/balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, crawl, and identify colored wires Use of ladders, scaffolds, or A-frames Occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs and possibly up to 50 lbs Required vision capabilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment Long periods of computer use Work Environment: Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, chemicals, outdoor weather, risk of electrical shock, and vibration Sometimes a loud noise level Safety: This is a safety-sensitive, drug-free position.
