What you'll do

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Lead Estimator to lead all estimating functions specific to our operation. This role is responsible for leading a team of estimators tasked with supporting both Sales and Operations in the timely and accurate creation of scopes of work and job costing to include obtaining quotes, building proposals, conducting site visits and surveys, and optimizing supplier and subcontractor relationships. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the paving industry, cost control, and logistics to help drive operational excellence and profitability across projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute estimating strategies aligned with company goals and project timelines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors to ensure reliability and quality of workmanship as well as timely, competitive pricing.
  • Manage the estimating team, setting goals and KPIs to ensure high performance and accountability.
  • Collaborate with account executives, project managers, estimators, and field teams to set scopes that best align with our competitive advantages, maximize our win potential, and minimize risk exposure to the company.
  • Provide supporting bid documentation such as site maps, photos, spreadsheets, and computations.
  • Develop and manage all division costing for in-house labor, equipment and materials including supplemental proprietary information.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and conduct recurrent training courses for Sales and Project Management teams.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, and inventory levels to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Implement estimating systems and tools to improve tracking, reporting, and workflow efficiency.
  • Be able to work with different personalities, appreciate differing viewpoints and accept constructive feedback.
  • Occasionally, you will be on-site before, during or after our projects to help support the project managers and sales team.
  • Develop and provide regular reports to executive leadership.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to us

  • 3-5 years of procurement experience, preferably in construction, paving, or heavy civil industries.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a leadership or director-level role.
  • Strong knowledge of blueprints, construction materials, vendors, and industry regulations and standards.
  • Excellent written & oral communication and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities coupled with strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high pressure, deadline-driven environment while navigating competing priorities.
