POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The position of Electrician is done for the purpose/s of providing installation, repair and maintenance of electrical components and systems and fire sprinkler systems to support the mission of the District.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

• Locates, analyzes and repairs electrical problems.
• Services and repairs synchronized clock systems.
• Maintains, services and repairs fire alarm systems, including testing and calibrating.
• Repairs, adjusts and calibrates appliances and motor driven equipment.
• Repairs and adjusts hood fire suppression systems for district kitchens
• Performs excavation, backfill or other dirt work as required for the position.
• Designs layouts for minor electrical modifications.
• Maintains and uses tools and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Installs new equipment as required.
• Performs high work on aerial lifts, staging, ladders and scaffolding as required.
• Provides training on use of aerial lifts to other staff as required.
• Works from blue prints, rough plans, sketches, patterns and written and oral instructions.
• Adheres to all safety requirements associated with the electrical trade.
• Maintains records incidental to the preventive maintenance program for all electrical.
• Utilizes electronic work order system.
• May be required to perform back up functions of other maintenance positions.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

• Reports directly to and is supervised by Manager, Facilities, Maintenance & Community Use
• Follows work direction from the designated lead position

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

Required
• High school diploma or GED
• 4 years’ experience working in the electrician trade
• Vocational apprenticeship as an electrician
• Training from Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, Fall Protection Requirements for Construction – Modules A – E within 6 months of date of hire

Preferred
• Experience in school districts or other public sector setting
• Experience in general construction

Allowable Substitutions
• Type of experience may substitute for years required in the electrical trade

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

• Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Master General Electrician or General Electrician (01) from Washington Department of Labor and Industries

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and practices of the electrical trade
• Knowledge of proper safety precautions and procedures applicable to electrical work
• Knowledge of confined space procedures
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
• Performs all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to follow technical instructions
• Ability to perform a variety of electrical and general construction tasks associated with the position
• Ability to perform repairs related to electrical systems and other general types of repairs
• Ability to perform repairs for fire sprinkler systems

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

• Ability to work independently or as a team member
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of all tools and equipment of the electrical trade
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of all tools and equipment utilized for the maintenance and repair of fire sprinkler systems
• Possesses computer skills including work order systems to perform the essential duties of the position
• Utilizes problem-solving skills as required for the position
• Demonstrates ability to follow technical instructions, including reading blueprints and other documents related to work projects
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, dust, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Maintenance and Grounds salary classification B-5 ($ 50.70 per hour), 40 hours per week, for a 260-day annual assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Other benefits include vacation and paid holidays.
