Direct Supervisor: Landfill Supervisor
Primary Work Location: Landfill
Physical requirements: This is operative work requiring the exertion of up to and exceeding 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Certification: Bulldozer operator; valid Driver's License
Job Summary
Compact and bury refuse by operating various pieces of heavy equipment.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:
- Contribute to the operation of the landfill by implementing instructions from supervisor safely,
correctly, and efficiently to include, but not be limited to: burying and compacting of refuse, grading
for new fill area, clearing debris, and maintaining the access roads utilizing dozers, scrapers, compactors, and loaders
- Responsible for ensuring that equipment is maintained daily and in proper working condition, by
completing preventive maintenance checklist and through a visual inspection of equipment prior to
and at the completion of work shift
- Make sure enough fill dirt is constantly stockpiled
- Knowledge of grades to maximize a space and slopes are maintained
- Perform related tasks as required
- Recognize hazardous materials and ensure compliance with disposal regulations
- Follow all safety procedures including use of PPE
Knowledge
- Operation and maintenance of various pieces of heavy equipment
- Relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or
national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
- Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Skills
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
- Controlling operations of equipment or systems
Abilities
- Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
- Quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
- Time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in
the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene
- Regular work attendance is required
