Senior Architect
Job Description

A Senior Architect is responsible for performing, directing, and supervising all aspects of architectural design services on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope for commercial and government facilities. The role requires the ability to bring design talents and organizational skills to assigned projects, serve as a role model and mentor to architectural support staff, and participate in activities to improve design quality and procedures. Additionally, the Senior Architect will be actively involved in marketing and business development activities, cultivating strong professional relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants to foster repeat business.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of architectural design, including conceptual studies, programming, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents.
  • Lead several projects of moderate complexity and scope concurrently, as required by schedule and resource constraints.
  • Meet with clients to prepare and validate proposed scope of services.
  • Assist in presenting projects to clients, contractors, project team members, and members of the public through all stages of the project.
  • Manage the architectural portion of multi-discipline projects, working with assigned Project Managers to meet budget, schedule, goals, and objectives.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and communicate all aspects of architectural design within multi-discipline teams to ensure integration with other disciplines.
  • Communicate with contractors on Design-Build projects to verify the suitability of selected systems.
  • Direct and supervise the work of Architects, Interns, and Designers assigned to the project.
  • Manage and supervise architectural support services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids.
  • Manage and supervise architectural support services during the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Support company marketing and business development activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Provide technical guidance to architectural staff.
  • Mentor and monitor the professional development of architectural staff.
  • Assist Department Director and Department Head in developing new and revised procedures.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program or Masters of Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program.
  • Fully licensed Architect in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction.
  • NCARB certified to facilitate licensure through reciprocity.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and practices with LEED AP accreditation preferred.
  • Familiarity with design and production software such as Revit and Rhino 3D.
  • 10 years or more of significant design and practice experience in a leadership role with an architectural or multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm.
  • Experience in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education, or similar projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged.
  • Experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods.
  • Expertise in academic research facility design, biotechnology research & development facility design, agricultural biotechnology facility design, pharmaceutical facility design, and other Life Sciences building typologies.
  • Strong history of leading design development for facility types and maintaining successful client relationships.
Work Environment

The work environment includes large project selection within an A&E Firm. Architects will utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management. The dress code is professional.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $67.30/hr.
