TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Electrician in San Jose, CA to join our team.
The pay rate for this position is $38.98 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
- Responsible for Locomotive and Rail Car inspection, testing and maintenance of electrical, electronic and HVAC systems in accordance with FRA standards and guidelines.
- Works on electrical systems and components with AC and DC voltage.
- Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations.
- Utilizes a variety of test equipment, PC and graphic information to diagnose malfunctions, troubleshoot and qualify components and circuits to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures
- Repairs and/or replaces doors, electronics, signs, pantographs and HVAC systems.
- Installs components such as motors, switches, relays, batteries and transformers
- Performs approved electrical modifications and repairs or replaces components, as necessary.
- May work on electronic circuit boards and/or repair equipment, i.e., water coolers, refrigeration units or air conditioning.
- Works on the logic systems that control the propulsion of the train set as well as the propulsion system itself.
- Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of technical school or apprenticeship program preferred
- Experience in electrical repairs, and testing advanced electrical/electronic systems and reading, drafting, and interpreting circuit diagrams, schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience in both A/C and D/C electrical systems.
- Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment preferred.
- Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certification applicable to assigned job.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot using schematics and multimeters.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of electrical tools, equipment and the measurements necessary to meet established standards.
- Ability to train others in attaining higher skill levels in inspections and repairs
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

- Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
- Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
- Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
- Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
- Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
- Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
- Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
- Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
- Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
- Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
- Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
