NV5 provides full-service geotechnical assistance during all phases of the development process, from feasibility and preliminary studies through geotechnical design and evaluations, to quality control and quality assurance programs. We provide a spectrum of services, including geotechnical reconnaissance, assessment, and investigations, conventional and advanced laboratory testing, conventional and advanced geotechnical engineering analyses and design, grading observations, soils testing, and forensic evaluations.

The successful candidate should be a registered Civil Engineer in the State of New Mexico or be able to obtain registration within 6 months. Success in this position requires an individual who can adapt to a variety of personalities and business conditions and can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. The person must possess skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and be steadfast in the execution of assigned duties. The person needs to be an effective leader and collaborator with an ability to manage a fleet of soil/concrete technicians, Special Inspectors, and Laboratory staff.

Responsibilities
  • Direct, review and monitor work performed by the materials testing and inspection personnel.
  • Review field and laboratory reports.
  • Prepare cost estimates and proposals.
  • Project Management: Manage projects from inception through completion and have primary responsibility for managing client expectations and ensuring that delivery, budget, and schedule meet expectations.
  • Develop an understanding and be aware of project-related risks. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Participate in the training and mentoring of staff.
  • Conduct annual and interim performance reviews. Monitor and assess progress toward performance goals.
  • Certifications: Assures that all accreditations and certifications of the laboratory and staff are maintained and up to date.
  • With support from the Operations Manager, prepare and execute business plans for the New Mexico growth, development, and proposals.
  • With support from the Operation Manager, oversee and manage the success of the key group metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Lead safety efforts for the team and ensure that team members follow safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
Qualifications
  • BS in civil engineering.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • PE in New Mexico or obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Relocation cost available
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, think creatively, and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated experience with reviewing technical specifications and daily reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards.
  • Experience with AASHTO and ASTM test methods pertaining to construction materials, including HMA, aggregate, soils, steel, masonry, and concrete.
  • Experience reviewing concrete/asphalt mix designs.
  • Experience overseeing materials testing and inspections.
  • Thorough understanding of accreditation policies for all relevant agencies, including AMRL, CCRL, IAS, etc.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
