The City of Overland Park has a full-time Supervisor, Facilities Maintenance (Farmstead) position available in the Parks and Recreation Department.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance of equipment, existing buildings and grounds as well as the landscaping and custodial upkeep at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. The Supervisor works with contractors for various projects at the Farmstead. This position is part of the leadership team that assists in future facility projects at the Farmstead. This position acts as the hiring manager and will involve supervising, training and scheduling work assignments and schedules for facilities maintenance staff.

This position is part of the City's snow removal program which requires the flexibility of scheduling during snow or other weather related emergencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises, trains, assigns work schedules and assures a safe working environment for full-time, part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Working with the Farmstead Manager in assisting with the planning, scheduling, prioritizing and budgeting of facilities projects.
  • Assists with establishing and maintaining facility and grounds management standards and procedures.
  • Ensures all facility's mechanical systems and utilities function efficiently. This includes the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. Diagnosing issues when they arise, performing repairs, or coordinating with outside contractors as needed.
  • Maintains outdoor structures such as fences, irrigation system, windmill, benches, swings, playground equipment and walkways. Operates equipment such as tractor, front-end load, and backhoe.
  • Maintains garden and lawns, including mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, and weeding. Weeding and mulching landscape beds. Trimming trees, hedges and shrubs. Apply fertilizers, maintain landscape design features, remove weeds/dead plant material and oversee repairs as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with building codes and safety regulations, and maintains a safe facility.
  • Coordinates major repairs and annual maintenance of power equipment, such as golf carts, tractors, chainsaws, and weed eaters. Coordinates projects with other City Departments. Contacts private contractors and service companies to schedule repair and maintenance.
  • Prepares supply and material requisitions and bid specification for review. Obtains quotes from vendors. Writes purchase orders for supplies and materials and maintains inventory.
  • Maintains reports and attends Farmstead staff meetings.
  • Assists in emergency operations, including snow removal and storm cleanup, as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with which interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
  • The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
  • The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirements, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic education with additional experience in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, or electrical.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Must maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years experience in maintaining buildings and grounds: including electrical, plumbing, or carpentry.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
