The Solid Waste Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for performing specialized work in the operation of one or more types of heavy equipment related to modern Solid Waste operations. The Solid Waste Heavy Equipment Operator will be assigned daily tasks and responsibilities and will be expected to work independently.**Essential Job Functions**Operates one or more types of heavy motorized equipment, such as bulldozers, compactors, front-end loaders, excavators, graders, motorized pans, farm tractors, backhoes, etc.Works independently on a variety of projects as assigned by the Solid Waste Foreman to support Solid Waste OperationsPerforms a variety of tasks and responsibilities such as managing the remediation system, serving pumps, compliance monitoring, recordkeeping, etc.Excavate and load material into trucksPrepares pits to stockpile dirt, sand, gravel, etc.; maintains pit areas to ensure proper drainage and guard against cave-insOperates mowers and power or hand tools to cut brush at roadsidesPerforms routine preventive maintenance and minor repair on equipment usedCompletes fuel sheets, timecards, and daily work reportsPerforms a variety of manual labor tasks to assist in landfill operations and repair projectsAdheres to work schedule and attendance requirementsPerforms other work as directed and requiredSupervises inmates as needed**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**Knowledge of personnel rules and regulations, statutes, ordinances, regulations, and codes under which the Walton County BCC operatesKnowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in basic construction and maintenance operations, including grounds maintenance workKnowledge of physical hazards and proper safety practices to be employed in public works construction and maintenance workKnowledge of how to perform pre-trip inspections and routine preventative maintenance workKnowledge of the geographic layout of the CountyKnowledge of the principles for the installation of culverts and similar water-diversion structuresSkilled in the use of various hand and power toolsSkilled in the operation of light, moderate and heavy motorized equipment.Ability to work independently towards the completion of a task[]{style="color: #5b9bd5; font-famil"}
