The Solid Waste Senior Equipment Operator is responsible for performing specialized, skilled work in the operation of one or more types of heavy equipment related to modern solid waste operations. The Solid Waste Senior Equipment Operator will be assigned an area of responsibility, within the Solid Waste Facility, to oversee and lead in its daily operations.**Essential Job Functions**Operates one or more types of heavy motorized equipment, such as bulldozers, compactors, front-end loaders, excavators, graders, motorized pans, farm tractors, backhoes, etc.Works independently on a variety of projects as assigned by the Solid Waste Foreman to support Solid Waste OperationsWell-versed in various road construction, drainage, and dirt work projects, and who can demonstrate their proficiency through hands-on experience and successful project outcomesAssists in the planning and implementation of projects and any necessary operational changesProvide supervision of Equipment Operators and technicians as necessaryExcavate and load material into trucksPrepares pits to stockpile dirt, sand, gravel, etc.; maintains pit areas to ensure proper drainage and guard against cave-insOperates mowers and power or hand tools to cut brush at roadsides.Performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repair on equipment used.Completes fuel sheets, timecards, and daily work reportsPerforms a variety of manual labor tasks to assist in landfill operations and repair projectsAdheres to work schedule and attendance requirementsPerforms other work as directed and requiredSupervises inmates as needed**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**Knowledge of personnel rules and regulations, statutes, ordinances, regulations, and codes under which the Walton County BCC operatesKnowledge of the standard methods, materials and equipment employed in basic construction and maintenance operations, including grounds maintenance workKnowledge of physical hazards and proper safety practices to be employed in public works construction and maintenance workKnowledge of how to perform pre-trip inspections and routine preventative maintenance workKnowledge of the principles for the installation of culverts and similar water-diversion structuresKnowledge of the geographic layout of the CountySkilled in the use of po
