Job Description

This role requires expertise in operating a total station instrument, GPS rover, and level equipment, along with the ability to read a level rod. The candidate should be capable of completing basic field calculations, cutting and clearing survey lines using hand tools, and maintaining a clean work vehicle. Following basic safety procedures and efficiently coordinating work under the direction of Project Managers is essential. The ability to lead and supervise a survey crew is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate total station instruments, GPS rovers, and levels.
  • Read level rods and perform basic field calculations.
  • Cut and clear survey lines using hand tools.
  • Maintain a clean work vehicle and follow basic safety procedures.
  • Coordinate work efficiently under the direction of Project Managers.
  • Lead and supervise one or more individuals on a survey crew.
  • Create plats, drawings, as-built, tree and topographic surveys, and exhibits using AutoCAD.
  • Communicate clearly with field crews, engineers, and project managers.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in land surveying.
  • Experience with Boundary, topographic surveys, wetland surveys, ALTA, construction staking.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Trimble survey equipment.
  • Strong communication skills with field crews, engineers, and project managers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required; formal training in a surveying-related field is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work in a timely and accurate manner.

Work Environment

The successful candidate will collect field survey data for various types of surveys including boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, wetland and tree locations, construction layout, and similar fieldwork. Proper PPE material will be provided while working onsite. The role involves walking long distances in woods, wetlands, and marsh areas, and exposure to bees, hornets, snakes, and other outside elements and insects. The position is full-time, with normal working hours from 6 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, and occasional Saturdays. The location is in the Savannah area, and the candidate will meet at the office and report to the Survey Manager.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
