E096 Construction Inspector IV, V or VI: Transportation Operations (Austin District)

This position oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications, acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. Trains others. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. May perform material tests/manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Work requires contact with other governmental agencies and private entities, to include contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product. Essential Duties: The essential duties for a Construction Inspector IV, V and VI include:Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management. Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades.Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.Ensures inspectors turn in monthly estimates in an accurate and timely manner to facilitate payments to contractors.Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.Composes correspondence, report and supporting documents; files.Coordinates programs and projects to enhance efficiency and streamline operationsMay serve as a lead worker or project leader.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
