Job Title: Assistant Project Manager
Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support electrical substation projects in the southeast Detroit to Ann Arbor area. The role involves managing multiple small projects, with an opportunity to gain experience in various project types over time.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the development of systems and processes for accounting, reporting, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, subcontractor management, record keeping, documentation, and budgeting.
- Develop and track key performance and financial metrics to optimize performance, productivity, and reduce costs.
- Prepare proposals and estimates, including drawing take-offs.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to establish job structure, including safety, scheduling, document control, cost codes, job cost spread, material/tooling plan, equipment, and billing.
- Facilitate job handoff from estimating to field project supervision.
- Coordinate with purchasing on material orders and required submittals.
- Travel regularly to project sites.
- Provide weekly updates on project progress to the Project Manager.
- Assist with the quotation of change orders due to drawing changes and RFIs.
- Work with the Project Manager on monthly financial bridge, job forecasts, and monthly reports.
- Collaborate with customers and field management on schedule development and maintenance.
- Ensure adequate resources are available to maintain schedule, budget, and safety expectations.
- Engage positively with customers to foster long-term relationships.
- Ensure timely billing and payment follow-through.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in construction, project management, scheduling, and construction management.
- Ability to document information accurately, particularly using Excel.
- Experience with Construction Management software like Procore or Bluebeam is a major plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Eagerness to learn and develop project management skills.
- Ability to coordinate projects, estimate, manage scope, and meet deadlines.
- Client-facing experience and familiarity with utilities, substation, and distribution work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or Civil Engineering preferred.
- 0-4 years of experience in construction projects as a project coordinator, project engineer, or project manager.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Passion for construction and utilities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Electrical Utility experience in distribution, transmission, or substation work is a nice-to-have.
Work Environment
The position involves regular travel to local power utility and substation construction sites, typically within an hour's drive from Oxford, occurring more than one to two days per week.The office serves as a hub for fostering a strong organizational culture, grounded in the company's core values and operating principles, which help unify the team. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the winter months and 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the summer.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $36.06/hr.
