Quanex is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team located in New Haven, CT.

The Mechanical Engineer will utilize mechanical/structural engineering skills to address technical inquiries from customers and sales representatives, and to support the Estimating staff. In addition will participate in product development and continuous improvement efforts within the product engineering team. The ideal candidate will be adept at problem solving, comfortable with CAD software and passionate about improving products. Knowledge of commercial manufacturing processes used to manufacture products made of sheet metal, steel and aluminum plate is needed.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Application Engineering, respond to customer’s technical inquiries.
  • Develop solutions in resolutions to customer’s specifications.

  • Product Engineering and assist with product design, development, and testing.
  • Collaborate with engineers on new product features and improvements.
  • Generate technical documentation for product designs and specifications.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks & AutoCAD) is preferred
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, DriveWorks, welding and lean manufacturing tools.
  • Design and manufacturing automation is a plus.
  • PE license is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 with potential to earn an annual bonus.

ll be required to work closely with Accounting, Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing departments to accurately quote all new product possibilities. This person will act as liaison between outside sales/external customers and internal engineering and manufacturing departments to ensure new product development projects are successful.

Responsibilities:

· Product Development is the emphasis of this position working closely with Director of Product Development to identify and secure additional business, which compliments our manufacturing strengths and fits into our strategic growth plan.

· Support of current core business through communication of alternative and/or new concepts for product design/product extensions where it relates to existing customers and/or products. This will include working closely with our sales force and internal/external customers to identify future core product requirements.

· Responsible for criteria, conceptual drawings and rough costing to determine feasibility of internal product/process development projects.

· Communication of new product/process opportunities with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability.

· Support Manufacturing Engineering efforts in identification of the process or processes required to meet the project requirements and specifications.

· Development of conceptual drawings, prototypes, production drawings and quality requirements in conjunction with Manufacturing Engineering.

· Estimate equipment, tooling and manpower costs associated with new products and/or processes to support Sales and Accounting in the quotation process.

· Serve as Product Manager for new customers/products through full production release before turning the product over to Sales and Marketing for maintenance.

· Responsible for planning and tracking projects and/or product development within the approved monetary budget.

· Accountable for new innovative products and redesign of current products.

· Accountable for maintaining positive relationships with existing and new customers.

· Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline

· 2 – 4 years of engineering experience or equivalent work experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· The incumbent must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. They must also interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to management and customers. Should have good time management skills, pay attention to details and be able to handle multiple projects at any given time. Should be efficient in the use of AUTO_CAD, Windows based programs, and SolidWorks.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs at times.
