Overview

VTG is seeking a Painter 4 located in our Fabrication Shop in Virginia Beach, VA.

What will you do?

Summary Operates grinders and sanders; wet and powder painting equipment to spray work pieces by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensures all items are completed within customer, company and quality procedures and regulations.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine surface finish and coatings to be applied on work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Trains employees on proper prep and painting techniques, procedures and safe equipment operation.
  • Turns valves and observes gauges to set pressure and to control flow of paint to each spray station.
  • Prepare fabricated parts for painting application by grinding and sanding.
  • Utilizes hand tools such as grinders, needle guns, sanders, and hand files.
  • Inspects painted units for runs, sags, and unpainted areas.
  • Readjusts pressure valves to control direction and pattern of spray and to correct flaws in coating.
  • Cleans paint equipment and maintains ceiling and walls of booth, conveyor hooks or grid, and from disks, cones, spray heads, and hoses.
  • Changes filters and booth coat in spray booth.
  • Mixes paint according to specifications with viscometer to regulate consistency according to changes in atmospheric conditions.
  • Mixes and applies filler materials.
  • Ensure work complies to Mil Spec Standards.
  • Validate current inventory and forecast future inventory needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities

May direct work of other painters and provide guidance and expertise to other technical positions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

HS plus eight years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience to include AS plus five years of experience or BS plus two years experience in related field.

Experience in media blasting and spray painting.
