The Superintendent for Baytown Area Water Authority (BAWA) manages BAWAs surface water purification plants. Meets with outside government agencies and City Departments. Communicates with regulatory agencies, citizens, outside repair firms, and engineering firms. Completes TCEQ and EPA reports and ensures accuracy. Performs personnel related duties including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and discipline.
  • Inspects the process and physical plant for compliance with safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Directs the work force and checks their performance by auditing lab test results, log sheets, and product quality.
  • Assists in solving various operating and maintenance problems. Plans for system outages to accommodate inspection and maintenance of facilities.
  • Approves purchase orders, prepares budget and bid specifications.
  • Meets with customers, salespeople, outside government agencies and city departments. Prepares monthly reports and discusses reports with BAWA Board members.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for compliance and operational efficiency. Makes on-site inspections of construction projects.
  • Keeps updated and informed on changes in technology and standards by reading, attending seminars and visiting other facilities.
  • Reports and prepares for audits and inspections from governmental control agencies.
  • Performs personnel related duties including hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and discipline.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or institution in a related field.
  • Five years of experience in a professional level drinking water operations related role.
  • Class B Surface Water Operator certification from TCEQ, or equivalent certification if out of state (if certification is from out of state, must obtain Class "B" Surface Water Operator certification from TCEQ within 6 months).
  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX drivers license within 90 days).
  • Demonstrated prior supervisory experience.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred:

  • Class A TCEQ Water Operator certificate.
  • Certified Public Manager

Skills in the water treatment process. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment operation. Ability to react to abnormal contaminate levels. Ability to manage the workforce in an effective and organized manner. Basic mathematical and algebraic knowledge and reasoning skills. Computer literate in Word and Excel. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.

In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
