Are you a talented Mechanical Engineer with a passion for designing and delivering large-scale automated fulfillment solutions? We're seeking a driven Mechanical Project Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in transforming the future of Amazon's logistics network.
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the detailed mechanical design of our automated fulfillment center projects, from concept to completion. You will work closely with a cross-functional engineering team to select the optimal equipment, plan and execute your deliverables with the highest quality, and ensure seamless integration with other building systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical Design and Engineering:
o Develop detailed mechanical designs for automated material handling systems, conveyor lines, sortation equipment, and supporting infrastructure
o Select and specify the appropriate mechanical components, equipment, and systems to meet project requirements
o Collaborate with electrical, controls, and structural engineers to ensure a cohesive, integrated design
2. Project Execution and Coordination:
o Develop and manage mechanical engineering project plans, schedules, and deliverables
o Coordinate with other trades to minimize conflicts and ensure efficient installation
o Maintain excellent communication with the on-site construction team to address issues and support field implementation
3. Stakeholder Management and Collaboration:
o Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand requirements, balance priorities, and deliver solutions that exceed expectations
o Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and satisfy a complex set of goals
o Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to motivate and lead the engineering team
4. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
o Ensure the mechanical design meets all safety, regulatory, and performance standards
o Implement quality control measures to identify and resolve issues early in the design and construction phases
o Capture and apply lessons learned to improve the mechanical design and delivery process for future projects
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
5+ years of experience in mechanical design and project management, preferably in the logistics, material handling, or construction industries
Proficiency in 3D CAD software, project management tools, and data analysis
Strong technical skills, creativity, and the ability to balance competing priorities
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities

A day in the life
You will be building the bridge while you walk on it - we have never internally delivered the full engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of a building before, so this leader will be defining what we have to actually do, and then doi it.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimumof 5 years ofrelative work experience

- Experience in project management or leading teams

- Ability/Experience using Project Planning & Deliverables Tracking

- Ability to use AutoCAD 2D & 3D

- Ability to use AutoDesk Suite of tools (Revit, Navisworks, Vault, BIM360, ACC, etc)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-Masters degree in Engineering (any discipline), Operations, or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in the specialty.
-Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
-Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
-Capital project management skills.
-Design-in-Safety experience
-Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, and using statistics and reliability metrics to solve problems.
-Ability to travel up to 25% of time
