CAD Technician

A CAD Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Hickory, NC area. A mechanical designer or technician with experience in CAD software and industrial equipment design supports engineers by creating 3D models, drawings, documentation, and prototypes, while managing procurement, vendor coordination, and installation guidance, requiring both strong technical and communication skills.

responsibilities:

• Draft initial mechanical layouts and detailed drawings for tooling, components, and systems.
  
  
• Create prototype parts using 3D printing.
  
  
• Prepare documentation packages combining drawings and technical content.
  
  
• Support project teams with cost tracking, scheduling, and estimates.
  
  
• Assist in specifying and selecting commercially available handling equipment.
  
  
• Collaborate on training materials and train internal or customer personnel.
  
  
• Communicate technical concepts through visual, written, and spoken formats.
  
  
• Interface with vendors to finalize commercial part selection and write requisitions.

Skills:

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software: SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD.
  
  
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  
  
• Knowledge of mechanical part sourcing and vendor communication.
  
  
• Familiarity with machine safety standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO).
  
  
• Understanding of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards.
  
  
• Experience in mechanical layout and machine design.
