Senior Quality Engineer

Curtiss-Wright Peerless Instrument has an immediate opening for a Sr. Quality Engineer for their Long Island, NY facility. Peerless Instrument provides state-of-the-art electronic assemblies, systems and software to the US military. Peerless' advanced instrumentation and control systems are used in Navy propulsion systems.

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) reports to the Quality Manager and is responsible for managing and resolving a wide variety of Supplier Quality issues. Potential customer issues to resolve include working in conjunction with Manufacturing, Procurement, and Engineering. Additionally, the SQE will work with critical suppliers to improve quality levels through effective root cause analysis of quality problems and use of proactive approaches to quality improvement.

Location: Farmingdale, NY

Salary Information: $105,000 - $140,000

Your Challenge:

  • Provide support and direction in the implementation and administration of quality systems.
  • Monitor, maintain and continuously improve system procedures, inspection plans and quality performance trends.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of the quality system and coordinate quality related issues with other departments, suppliers and customer.
  • Manage and develop suppliers delivering Printed Wiring Boards, Printed Wiring Assemblies, and related parts and services.
  • Perform supply chain quality engineering functions including supplier evaluations, on-site system assessments, product realization capability and capacity reviews, and supplier corrective actions (SCARs).
  • Conduct periodic surveillance audits of existing suppliers to address process deficiencies affecting quality performance.
  • Track Supplier Quality Issues and drive them to closure in a timely manner.
  • Investigate supplier quality issues to determine root cause, identify and implement corrective actions, drive long term preventative actions.
  • Perform supplier oversight and surveillance to ensure product quality and on-time deliveries.
  • Perform Supplier Source Inspections and data review of subcontractor certs of conformance/data packages.
  • Internally communicate with Engineering, Purchasing, Program Management on opportunities within the supply chain for quality improvements.
  • Review customer contracts and purchase orders for quality requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring that proper supplier flow-down clauses are applied to Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders per the program-based requirements.
  • Review packaging requirements to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Perform internal product, process and procedure audits to ensure compliance to specified quality requirements.
  • Facilitate and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Issue Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) and Internal Corrective Action Request (ICAR) when trends are identified.
  • Attend Project kick off meetings and monthly project status meetings.

Your Expertise:

  • 10 years or more related experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10 % of the time.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to drive improvement of suppliers quality performance and strong background in quality auditing.
  • Extensive experience in the defense industry preferred.
  • ASQ Certification such as Certified Supplier Quality Professional, or Certified Six Sigma Green/Black Belt Preferred.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control, LEAN, and Six Sigma preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand, electrical, mechanical drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills. Hands-on and data driven. Be able to adapt to dynamic working environment.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Power Point as well as software and hardware tools required to accomplish day-to-day work activities.
  • Certified or knowledgeable in the requirements of IPC-610, IPC-WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001 standards.
