Job Summary

- Operates the specific vehicles used for the project work in their field of specialty (road, pipelines, rail, etc.) in observance of the safety guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

- Operate steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces.

- Distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.

- Drive machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.

- Determine speed and direction of machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures.

- Push hand roller and pound surfaces, using hand tamp, or guide portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.

Education

- High school diploma or equivalent experience preferred

- Valid driver's license and clean driving history

- Prior experience preferred

- Ability to use equipment and tools accurately and safely

- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency

- Ability to work with a team and in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

- Must have an acceptable safety record and be committed to working safely

- Overtime as required

- Must follow the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements

- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by Company safety guidelines

- Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance, use hands to move and manipulate objects, and communicate (talk and hear)

- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

- Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain

- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles, loud noise, fuel, oil, and other chemicals
