Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Transportation Engineer Specialist I Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer Specialist II establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Transportation Engineer Specialist III may serve as lead worker.Transportation Engineer Specialist I:Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.Learns specialized design and project development techniques.Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Performs construction inspections.Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic problems.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Review entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer Specialist II include all of the above and:May assist in planning and coordinating office operations.Trains less experienced technicians.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Transportation Engineer Specialist III all the above and:Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Prepares budget estimates.Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including traffic management and signal lighting design.
