CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR - Range 14 / AMEA

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT : Project Management & Engineering

HOURS OF WORK : Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

LOCATION : 4700 Elmore Road

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management, and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
Inspection of capital construction projects for conformance to plans and contract, documentation/verification of pay quantities, production of as-built drawings, establishment of record documentation at project completion, and review/comment of upcoming project plans and specifications. Assist and communicate directly with contractors, and engineers to resolve any construction design related issues. During project construction, this position meets with various municipal and private utilities and coordinates with them to ensure project does not negatively impact the utility. This position also meets with impacted property owners to explain what is being done and address any potential impacts to their properties. Other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, and/or code enforcement and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Associates degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design CAD), traffic signal control and/or code enforcement and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individuals command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service.
