Building Facilities Plumber Department of Public Works: BuildingFacilities Plumber Union: UWUA - Full Time Hourly Range: \$30.8519 to\$34.9061 Step 1 to Step 6 General Description: The Town of EastLongmeadow is seeking a Building Facilities Plumber to performjourneyman level plumber work required to maintain, install, repair, oralter plumbing systems found in Town Departments Primary EssentialFunctions: The Plumber is the journeyman level class responsible for awide variety of maintenance and construction tasks associated withplumbing repair, and installation work. Performs skilled plumbing andgas fitting duties involving installation, renovation or repairs insupport of the overall maintenance of municipal buildings; demonstratesa full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and workmethods associated with assigned duties; works with Building FacilitiesTechnician and other DPW employees. The Plumber will test, repair, andinstall plumbing and gas systems; grease and steam traps, sinks, waterclosets, urinals, water systems, compressed air systems and lines,valves (shut off, mixing, relief, etc.), pumps (sump, ejector,circulating, etc.), laboratory type plumbing and gas fittings,dishwashers and other kitchen equipment, hot water heaters and boilers,coils (steam, hot water, evaporator, condenser), piping, fittings,flushometers, sanitary and drain systems, roof drains, propane (LP) gassystems, back-flow preventers, and all other types of plumbing and gasfitting components. Performs regular preventative maintenance to ensuremaximum efficiency of all plumbing, gas and heating systems; keepabreast of all safety building codes, asbestos laws and guidelinesrelated to plumbing and heating trades; maintain all hand and powertools in good operating condition; perform all necessary paperwork asdirected; maintain a clean and orderly work area; and perform allpatching and repair that may be required as part of any job. Monitorsand complies with local building codes. Secures plumbing permits whenrequired. Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable codes andfollows policies, procedures and work methods associated with assignedduties. Responds to questions and concerns from the general public;provides information as is appropriate and resolves public servicecomplaints. Checks completed work for accuracy. Plans work schedule tocoordinate with other departments to ensure timely completion ofproject. Perform other similar duties as assigned or requested bysupervisor. Required Education, Skills, Training and Experience: A highschool diploma and five (5) years of journeyman level experience and avalid journeyman plumbing level license or an equivalent combination ofeducation, experience and training that provides the required knowledge,skills, and abilities. Also repair, maintenance and installation ofplumbing equipment, pneumatic control devices and sprinkler fittings.Must have ability to work from blueprints or create own building planwhen needed. Knowledge of applied practice, techniques, tools, andmaterials used in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbingequipment, operation of trucks and other equipment. Math and geometryskills necessary for plumbing calculations. Ability to calculate costsand length of construction and projected completion date. Ability todeal effectively with co-workers, supervisors and other departments.Must have a thorough knowledge of work hazards, safety procedures, andpublic safety matters. Must have physical strength and ability toperform moderate manual labor for extended periods under dirty anduncomfortable conditions and in all types of weather Must be availablefor emerency call-outs during off time. Certificates, License,Registrations: Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class A, B, or Ddriver\'s license. Must be able to obtain a first-aid/CPR card.
