Primary Responsibilities - Owning the mechanical design and development of strategic projects. Many projects involve design and creation of submersible sensors with tight mechanical requirements that must meet an expected life of 5-10 years.

Lead mechanical design of submersible systems from concept through production, ensuring innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions

Collaborate cross-functionally with R D teams, manufacturing, product management, and supply chain to align design decisions with overall company strategy

Evaluate and mitigate technical and commercial risks throughout the product development lifecycle.

Anticipate downstream effects of design changes on supply chain, serviceability, and customer experience

Demonstrate a strong understanding of how engineering decisions impact the broader business, including revenue, margins, and customer satisfaction

Proactively identify and communicate potential business risks or opportunities stemming from engineering developments

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence

Use data-driven insights to guide design choices

Perform structural, thermal, and tolerance analyses using tools like FEA

Support procurement and suppliers for technical discussions and sourcing

Generate detailed drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation for products and components

Communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Troubleshoot internal and field failures, driving to root cause and corrective actions

Update product designs as required to meet quality and cost improvement goals

Create, implement, and monitor appropriate test plans for new products and product improvements

Oversee testing to ensure that a high level of quality and reliability is present in the final product and that it meets project requirements

Lead small to medium projects including planning, scheduling, design work, and cross-functional communication

Position Qualifications

Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States of America

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Process oriented with a sense of urgency

A strong team player, results-oriented, and comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment

Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline

Proficient user of CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred) including 3D layouts and 2D detail drawings

Strong communication skills to be able to work effectively with marketing, engineering, technical support, and customers

Self-starter with an ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Process oriented problem solver and team player with a strong work ethic

Positive attitude

Desired:

Experience in mechanical design systems and software including SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM

Mechanical testing experience including Temperature, Vibration, Drop, Pressure and Pull Strength

Logical thinker who is not afraid to dive into difficult issues outside of their area of expertise

Proficient in design of both molded and machined components

Lean manufacturing experience

5-10+ years of experience in product design.

Experience in the water industry or experience designing small submersible devices

Experience with opto-mechanical design

Working Environment and Physical Conditions

Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data and internal benchmarks.

Salary Range: $85,000-$120,000
