Heavy Equipment Operator II Public Works

Then workings as a HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II for Public Works may be a great position for you! This is manual work in the operation of small to heavy equipment used in street and stormwater maintenance. This position may also provide heavy equipment transport on our streets and highways, requiring a CDL A license. The Heavy Equipment Operator II safely operates various heavy equipment as assigned and based on capabilities, such as loader, back hoe, mini excavator, asphalt trucks and dump truck used in transportation of various material and other heavy equipment; washes, services and makes minor adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment; reports need for maintenance or repair of equipment to supervisor; participates in maintenance construction and laboring work as directed; assists team members installing meters; operates air compressor and missal; He or she also inspects assigned equipment to ensure it is working properly before use.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and two years of similar experience in the construction industry. Candidates must be proficient in the operation of hydraulic excavators, graders, and dozers; must know the operational limits and specifications of various heavy equipment; must be able to read and interpret blueprints; and must be able to use grade checking equipment. Must possess at least a Class B CDL. We are looking for a self-starter who is prepared to get to work with a positive attitude who has the physical strength and stamina to perform the rigorous duties of this job.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safely operates assigned equipment, including loader, back hoe, mini excavator, asphalt truck, dump truck, and other heavy equipment
• Inspects assigned equipment prior to operation on a daily basis and reports any issues to supervisor
• Immediately notifies supervisor of equipment issues that affect life safety and equipment performance
• Follows all safety and security procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Two years of experience preferred
• Valid Class B CDL or higher
• Highly professional and dependable
• Able to follow spoken and written instructions
• Must know the operational limits and specifications of equipment to which they are assigned and be able to follow proper rigging standards and ensure quick connect attachments are connected properly
• Must follow all safety and health rules and regulations
• Must have the physical ability to navigate a construction site and work in dirty or dusty surroundings; enter/exit machines comfortably; lift/carry objects; stoop, bend, and crouch; use hands, arms, and legs fully; and see well (naturally or with corrective lenses)
