INTEGRATED DESIGN and ADVISORY
The Integrated Design and Advisory business vertical is one of the business verticals at Michael Baker International with more than 850 professionals located across the country. Established as a national professional and consulting services delivery platform, we unite architecture and engineering design expertise with strategic advisory services to deliver holistic and innovative solutions that address the business and project objectives of our clients. Integrated Design leverages the early involvement of all project stakeholders and key disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and fire protection (MEP+S+FP) engineering, as well as architecture and planning. Job Description:
Michael Baker International is seeking an enthusiastic, articulate, and motivated Senior Architect Lead to join our dynamic and growing Architectural team in Alexandria, VA. This role focuses on executing technical design work and driving the overall growth of the Architecture Department. The current focus of our team is on Federal, Aviation, Transit, State, and Municipal projects, along with market-driven diversification including Industrial, Defense, Aerospace, and Healthcare . The successful candidate will demonstrate significant experience in delivering large, complex Architectural/Engineering (A/E) projects, including Design/Build delivery, in collaboration with geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership, Project Management, and Execution:
- Lead multi-disciplinary design teams through the development of project design and construction documentation, from project inception through as-built documentation.
- Lead activities and build design, construction, and contract documentation. This includes researching products and systems, performing code analysis, conducting studies, gathering field documentation, and producing reports, sketches, drawings, specifications, and design analyses.
- Manage the project architectural team, including preparing a work plan and maintaining quality, budget, and schedule, ensuring seamless coordination during the project life cycle.
- Analyze project objectives and perform advanced technical research to devise efficient and cost-effective solutions for complex architectural challenges.
- Perform quality assurance activities for assigned projects and perform quality control reviews for other teams projects.
- Verify architectural designs met sustainability goals and industry best practices and adhered to applicable environmental regulations. Incorporate sustainable design principles to optimize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact in line with project objectives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: - Coordinate with executive leadership and multi-functional engineering teams to align design objectives with technical requirements, business goals, and client expectations.
- Facilitate communication across departments to streamline project execution.
Leadership and Mentorship:
- Lead planning sessions to define project objectives, allocate tasks, and set performance goals for the team.
- Provide mentoring, professional development, and conduct performance reviews to enhance team efficiency.
Proposal Development & Client Presentations:
- Prepare detailed proposals, visualizations, technical reports, and presentations for local clients, ensuring a clear articulation of design concepts, project plans, and value propositions. Deliver engaging presentations to secure client buy-in and project approvals.
- Engage with clients, consultants, and subject matter experts throughout the development of projects.
- Assist leadership and business development teams with growth planning and actively participate in project pursuits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent.
- 12-15 plus years of experience in architectural design and construction documentation role.
- Registered Architect (RA) required. LEED accreditation and NCARB certification will be a plus.
- Additional credentials and certifications are a plus (in such areas as specifications writing, sustainability, project management, and business development)
- Experience with a variety of project procurement methods, including design-bid-build and design-build.
- Must possess strong project management skills relating to design, coordination, and time management.
- Be a proactive resource to project teams in their decision-making processes and the development of technically sound and innovative planning and design solutions.
- Multitasking ability in fast fast-paced environment.
- Develop and maintain positive client relations. Communicate design, construction, and other issues to clients in a clear and compelling way.
- Participate in marketing campaigns and interview teams, prepare proposals, and develop fees.
- Work closely with Sales Leads to track and support opportunities for key markets
- Demonstrated history of successful leadership and design of complex architectural projects, including design, permitting, and construction services.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modeling Autodesk Revit 2024, BIM 360 and Microsoft Office Suite.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $104,844 to $181,504. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
